Rochester, NY, April 7, 2010 – WindTamer Corporation (“WindTamer”) (OTC:BB:WNDT-News) announced today the sale of a mobile trailer-mounted 1.0kW WindTamer turbine and energy storage unit to the U.S. Army. The turbine will be utilized as a demonstration unit for the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command (“RDECOM”) as a means of charging batteries for communications equipment. RDECOM is the Army’s largest technology developer and its primary source for research, development and engineering capabilities. The WindTamer unit is expected to initially reside at RDECOM’s Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.
Mark Matthews, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for WindTamer, said that, “The mobile WindTamer turbine and energy storage unit will be used as an alternative to a generator. We believe the unit purchased by the U.S. Army will demonstrate its applicability for military use and also an accelerated payback period due to the offset of the high cost of transporting fuel. We view military use of our trailer-mounted turbines as a significant market for WindTamer going forward.”
Michael T. Brundage, Chief, Power Sources Branch, U.S. Army RDECOM said, “The Army is constantly striving to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels while at the same time investigating energy sources that are renewable for all of its electronics applications. Wind turbine technology is an area of great interest to RDECOM, the power sources technology development organization for the Army, and WindTamer provides an innovative approach to harnessing wind energy. We look forward to delivery of the trailer mounted demonstration unit so we can explore creative solutions for decreasing the Army’s dependence on resource-consuming energy sources.”About RDECOM
